Investigation regarding Fly Tipping: Case Study

Fly tipping in the UK is becoming a growing issue that councils and residents are struggling to stop. The residents of a private road in Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham have been suffering from ongoing fly tipping that was a blight on the neighbourhood and was becoming a health hazard.

In recent months, multiple loads of household waste, furniture and building waste had been dumped in the private lane. This would normally happen either at night or on weekends, so these people were difficult to catch. With little action from the police, they called Bond Rees investigators for help.

Since the road was private, Rotherham Council had no power or interest to act on the problem. This meant that residents were having to foot the bill for rubbish removal, which came at a costly price. We also caught audio with one of the men calling out his partners in crime’s name.

Armed with the evidence, South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Council were able to proceed with prosecution of the offenders. They both received harsh fines as a result.
