Case Study: Neighbour Harassment on the Brighton Seafront

Sarah, a 34-year-old teacher living in a converted Victorian house near Brighton seafront, contacted Bond Rees after months of escalating harassment from her neighbour upstairs. The neighbour, apparently resentful of Sarah’s small garden terrace, had begun a campaign of intimidation that included playing loud music until 3 AM, deliberately flooding her garden by redirecting his washing machine drainage, and photographing her whenever she used her outdoor space.

At first, Sarah tried the rational approach. She even offered to discuss anything that might be bothering her neighbour. Once again, though, there was more trouble. Leaving notes under her door threatening she “wouldn’t feel safe for much longer” had Sarah worried. Further, her mental health was spiralling downwards and she couldn’t sleep or enjoy her home.

Bond Rees installed discrete surveillance equipment that captured the neighbour redirecting water onto Sarah’s property and documented his pattern of noise harassment. Our private detectives also gathered statements from other residents who had witnessed his threatening behaviour. We discovered the neighbour had been posting derogatory comments about Sarah on local Facebook groups, including her full name and address.

The comprehensive evidence package we compiled included 40 hours of audio recordings, photographic evidence of property damage, witness statements from three neighbours, and social media screenshots. This evidence supported Sarah’s application for a restraining order. The magistrates’ court granted the order, and when the neighbour violated it just two weeks later, he was arrested and subsequently moved out. Sarah has since been able to enjoy her home peacefully and even received compensation for the damage to her garden.
