Birmingham Lie Detector Test

A lie detector test or polygraph test can quickly and accurately identify honesty or deceit and determine if a person is being truthful or lying in response to questions about any behaviour, event, or situation.

As a private individual you might suspect that your partner is being unfaithful and need a partner or matrimonial lie detector test, need to clarify secrets or accusations from a family member or friend, seek to confirm the perpetrator of wrongdoing that you have experienced, or have another matter for which you desperately require full disclosure and to finally know the truth.

It could be that you are the accused party and need to verify your innocence and stop all the false and harmful rumours and allegations affecting your life and relationships and show those who matter to you that you can be trusted.

A corporate lie detector test can be helpful during employment application and interview procedures to find out more about an applicant or can assist with employee monitoring and assessment in response to a workplace crime or wrongdoing such as employee theft, fraud, or misconduct to identify the offenders and safeguard your company.

In the United States of America, lie detector testing is commonly utilised within employee application processes and studies have found this to result in a higher calibre of employee being hired.

Bond Rees can come to your home or business premises for lie detector testing with no additional fee, or we can arrange a discreet and private venue if you are unable to accommodate testing at your home or another location.

How polygraph tests work

A polygraph exam records physiological responses including heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, respiration rate, movement, and sweating of the hands that science and research have found to correspond to the perceived threat or fear in a human being that individuals feel when they intend to lie or attempt to deceive.

A polygraph machines has sensors that are attached to a person’s torso, arm, and hand record the bodily reactions and these recordings are received by a computer software programme which transposes this into numerical or visual data and measurements can then be taken from this by a polygraph examiner that confirm if a person is being honest or telling a lie in response to a question.

The polygraph examiner will proceed with the lie detector test whilst the sensors are attached, and this consists of sets of questions in a set formulation of order and wording that adheres to a prescribed model that has been evidenced to produce the most accurate and reliable polygraph test results.

What to expect at a lie detector test?

The majority of individuals feel some nervousness and stress about undertaking a lie detector test and this does not infer deception and will not have a bearing on the end results achieved.

Prior to the test the polygraph examiner will have a pre-interview which is just a relaxed and informal chat with the individual taking the test to acquire information such as any mental or physical illness and any prescribed or recreational medication or substance or alcohol use.

They will also discuss the matter that the test has been arranged to address, gain some knowledge of the examinee, ensure that they consent to testing, and advise of the questions that will be in the test and check these are fully understood, and the examinee is ok to proceed.

No one else is able to attend during the test or any pre-interview with the examinee and no sound or video recording can be undertaken as this can affect the individual sitting the test and, therefore, the end outcomes.

The test will need to take place at a hard chair and surface such as a dining table or desk.

Sensors will then be attached to the torso, arm, and hand of the person sitting the test and these can be placed over a light item of clothing such as a t-shirt without issue. These don’t hurt and don’t cause any risk of harm to the person sitting the test. Then the test itself can begin.

A lie detector test can only address one issue and cannot be used to find out about several different concerns (eg, a test cannot be about cheating and theft, but one or the other) so if you need to find out about more than one matter you will require a second or more tests for which discounts are available from Bond Rees.

Once testing is complete, it may be possible to provide the results immediately or the examiner may need to carry out further analysis of data before being able to advise of the outcomes and this is no indication of deception but just variation in the responses and subtleties between different individuals.

You will always get the results of your test within a maximum of 48 hours as well as a written report emailed to you which is yours to keep, print off if you require, and use however you wish.

Can you do a lie detector test online?

Bond Rees only provide in person lie detector testing as this is the only method which study and research has evidenced to provide valid and reliable results.

There are some providers on the internet who claim to offer online testing, but no evidence supports the use of these and there is nothing to indicate that they work so apply caution before spending money on such as service as the results will not be in any way valid, reliable, or accurate.

Are lie detector tests accurate?

Polygraph testing is a complex and multifaceted exercise and there are many different factors that contribute to achieving accuracy including the knowledge and understanding of the polygraph examiner and strict application of correct procedure when formulating, undertaking, and scoring the test, and the equipment used amongst many others.

The American Polygraph Association is the leading international body and expert regarding lie detector testing, and they advise, if correct procedure and model are applied, that a polygraph exam is between 85% and 95% accurate.

Lie detector testing is a recognised and evidenced based practice and is used routinely in the USA by law enforcement authorities and is also used by the UK probation service and some UK police forces.
