A family in Hammersmith found themselves on the sharp end of neighbour harassment following a minor dispute over parking. What began as occasional sharp words escalated into a regular campaign of harassment that made their lives unbearable. The neighbour, apparently believing the family’s visitors were taking “his” parking space on the public road, began slashing their car tyres, dumping rubbish in their front garden, and making false complaints to social services about the family’s parenting.
The neighbour put up security cameras which he said were for his property but actually pointed at the family’s front door and windows. This was the last straw for the family. Whenever the couple’s children, aged 8 and 10, played in the garden, he would shout his abuse at them, calling names and telling them he would “show them what for”. Mrs Peterson worked from home but was regularly interrupted by the neighbour banging on the wall during her business calls.
Bond Rees was engaged after the family’s complaints to police seemed to go nowhere due to lack of evidence. Our investigation revealed the neighbour’s cameras were indeed illegally surveilling the family’s property. We conducted surveillance that captured him damaging their car, documented his harassment of the children, and discovered he had been impersonating council officials to make malicious reports about the family.
The evidence we gathered included footage of vandalism in progress, audio recordings of threats made against children, proof of data protection violations through illegal surveillance, and documentation of fraudulent complaints to authorities. We also uncovered evidence that the neighbour had harassed previous residents before the Petersons moved in.
Equipped with the detailed evidence capture by our investigators, the family successfully gained criminal prosecution and a civil injunction. The neighbour was convicted of criminal damage and harassment, and they were sentenced to a community service order with a restraining order.
The illegal surveillance cameras were removed, and the family received damages for their damaged property and distress. The Petersons can now enjoy their home without fear, and their children are able to play safely in their garden once again.
